Conservation Tasks

Following the closureHard at work clearing the ditch of the Derby branch of The Conservation Volunteers at the end of March 2015, team members so enjoyed working at Sinfin that they came together again in May of that year to set back to work, clearing debris and litter from a ditch alongside the lane, cutting back overhanging branches and digging out soil beneath a bridge.  It was very satisfying to see the result.  They continued to come back to work in Sinfin regularly and also work at other Parks, Nature Reserves and open spaces in Derby, under the name of 'Derby Parks Volunteers'.

In the first few months of 2017, the team came to work regularly in Sinfin, clearing back hedgerows and laying them as well as clearing hawthorns to make open areas in the 'balancing pond'.  All this is in preparation for cattle coming on site in late summer/autumn as part of the Higher Level Stewardship scheme.  Fencing and cattle handling facitilities have also been installed by contractors.  If you take a walk down the lane, you will see a big transformation!

The full programme of tasks organised by DPV can be obtained from the contact phone numbers below.  Tasks normally take place every Tuesday and Wednesday.  New volunteers are always welcome.  It's a lot of fun and there's a good team spirit.  What's more, it's good exercise in the fresh air, whilst doing your bit to help the natural environment.  Don't worry if you can't come every week.
